August 2011
What’s New:
In this edition of the TOPYX Topics newsletter, we are proud to announce that our social learning management system software, TOPYX®, has again been recognized as a leader by some of the largest names in the industry.
It is award season and TOPYX is once again leading the pack. Elearning! magazine has named TOPYX a “Best of Elearning!” award winner in 2009, 2010 and now as a finalist for 2011. The award winners will be announced later in the year. Thank you to everyone who voted for TOPYX!
EducationInvestor has recognized TOPYX as a finalist for their annual award program in 2010 and, now again, in 2011. We are honored by this recognition and look forward to winning this award in 2011!
TOPYX has also made the short-list of possible award winners for the e-Learning Age 2011 award program. The award winners will be announced later in the year and we are looking forward to announcement of the winners!
These award programs are on top of the recognitions that TOPYX has already walked away with this year, including the Excellence in Technology awards from Brandon Hall:

Infographic: Google+ vs. Facebook
TechnoBombs is the author of this new infographic(Technobombs.com) - By now you’ve probably seen all the headlines, scanned through the “how to” guides, and read all the reasons why so many tech journalists and online socialites are clamoring to get intoGoogle+, with some even bidding on eBay for a G+ invite.
But you, you’re more cautious about putting yourself out there online. Perhaps you think Google+ is no different from that other time suck, Facebook. Or perhaps you’re too weirded out by Facebook “poking” to care about learning the difference between a Google+ “huddle” and “hangout”.
Fortunately, the folks over at TechnoBombs have created an infographic showing, in a glance, to show all the fundamental differences between the two social networks:
Add Social Learning to Any LMS!
TOPYX Bolt which provides for the social learning elements of the award winning TOPYX® social learning management system (LMS) to existing, legacy LMSs. TOPYX Bolt will extend learning management systems by providing a seamless integration of award-winning social learning features that will allow learners to easily collaborate through public and private communities that TOPYX Bolt will provide.
TOPYX Bolt delivers the same award-winning social learning resources as the TOPYX social LMS, except it “bolts on” to an existing LMS infrastructure and facilitates enhanced social and informal learning throughout the enterprise. Learners can now have access to a series of social learning features, such as forums, chat, blogs, shoutboxes, polls and many other tools to be used for collaborative learning in (private or public) subject, course and content communities.
“The concept is genius. Pure genius.” said Craig Weiss, President, E-Learn Info Advisory Services.
TOPYX Bolt is designed to be an affordable, subscription based and easy to implement solution, which extends an enterprise’s learning and development delivery model with collaboration tools geared to further engaging the learner.
The Human Factor: Evangelizing Social Learning
Training professionals rarely need encouragement to see the potential value in Learning 2.0 environments. Given tools that allow for threaded discussion, promoting and linking to relevant resources, or working collaboratively on common goals, training professionals tend to look at social learning and collaboration environments as a Swiss army knife of online learning opportunities. The organizations those professionals support, on the other hand, often need additional reasons to invest in a social learning environment.
The good news is, the reasons are substantial. If you’re looking to generate support for the investment, or need to encourage the use of a platform your organization has purchased recently, this recent article in Learning Solutions magazine provides some additional arguments you can use.
