One of the items we’re asked about frequently is what place does social networking have in academic eLearning. I went into it extensively a few weeks back and I’ll be presenting around that topic in tomorrow’s webinar Social Networking and eLearning. Sign up here to register for the webinar. I won’t tread over past ground, but essentially the social networking blended with and LMS allows students to directly communicate with others in a variety of fashions while they go through course content. I simple statement or “micro-blog” in twitter, an instant message to a fellow student deemed a friend, a post in a forum or chat, even a video call to someone would all be forums of valid networking for a student. Posting information about a thesis or presentation in one’s LinkedIn profile would be valuable to find like-minded contacts or gain attention to one’s work. All are valuable and should be easily available in an eLearning environment. I hope to hear other ideas or suggestions of valued tools.
